    Upon  the ahead-of-schedule reopening of Baoji-Chengdu railway line  to  traffic  on  May 24th, Chinese President Hu Jintao, also General Secretary of CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered important instructions, “The early restoration of Baoji-Chengdu line saves the major  artery  linking southwest to northwest, which forcefully secures the  quake  rescue  and  relief campaign. I’m extending my hearty greetings and  highest  respect  to all the rescuers.”

    Member  of  the  Standing Committee of CCCPC Political Bureau & Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Wu Bangguo wrote important instructions  on  the  rescue  of tunnel 109# of Baoji-Chengdu Line on May 23rd: “BaoCheng line  is a trunk line, which is set to play a critical  role  in  the  post-quake reconstruction campaign. The major  breakthrough in rescuing tunnel 109#, coupled  with the all-round reinforcement, track  overhaul and  dredging  of  Jialing  River, will accelerate  BaoCheng Line’s early refunctioning. Please convey my  greetings and congratulations to all the rescuers.”
   
    5月26日，中共中央政治局常委、全国人大常委会委员长吴邦国来到全国发往汶川地震灾区救援物资最集中的到达站———成都东站，检查指导救灾物资运输工作，慰问装卸救灾物资的铁路职工和青年志愿者。他指出，汶川大地震后，全国人民非常关心灾区，大批援助的救灾物资正源源不断发往灾区，希望铁路部门再接再厉，以最快的速度，最有效的方式，进一步做好救灾物资转运工作，把全国人民的关怀和温暖送到灾区千家万户。
    Member of  the  Standing  Committee of CCCPC Political Bureau & Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Wu Bangguo inspected relief material transport at Chengdu East  Station  on May 26th, the most concentrated destination for the earthquake relief materials from across the country. Wu  extended sincere greetings to  the railway staffs and volunteers, who were busy handling the relief materials. Wenchuan Earthquake has drawn concern across the whole nation and batch after batch of relief materials are sent to the quake-hit region, Wu noted, the railway departments are supposed to keep up the efforts and transport the relief materials in the swiftest and most effective manner so as to convey the whole nation’s care and warmth to the quake-affected households.

    While leading the quake rescue and  relief  campaign in the most affected region of Shaanxi province, Member of the  Standing Committee of CCCPC Political Bureau, Secretary of  CCCPC  Secretariat & Vice President Xi Jinping came over to Lueyang railway of Xi’an Railway Administration  on  May  20th to inspect railway’s quake relief work and convey greetings to the railway employees in the afternoon. Xi urged the  railway  department  to guard against probable aftershocks, go all out to ensure staff safety, spare no efforts to  take  part in the quake relief campaign and restore Baoji-Chengdu Line as soon as possible so as to secure transport capacity for the relief materials.

    While  directing  the  quake relief work non-stop in Sichuan, Vice Premier Li Keqiang, also Member of the Standing Committee of CCCPC Political Bureau & Deputy Director of the State Council’s Earthquake Rescue & Relief Headquarters, came over to Chengdu  East  Station in the afternoon on  May  21st  to convey greetings to the  railway staffs and  inspect railway’s relief material transport. Li requested railway departments  to bring the role of railway artery into full play  and continue to  transport  the quake relief  materials  by  all  means,  especially  the  most needed items including  tents, colored  fabric, temporary  houses and disinfectant, as well as food, drinking water, grain and  clothing so as to accommodate the need  of the quake-hit region and secure reliable  transport  for the nationwide relief campaign.

    While inspecting and directing the quake  rescue  and  relief  campaign in Shaanxi, Vice Premier Li Keqiang, also Member of the Standing  Committee  of  CCCPC Political Bureau & Deputy Director of the State Council’s Earthquake Rescue & Relief  Headquarters, came over to Chenggu  Station of Xi’an Railway Administration at 15:00 on June  7th to  convey  greetings to the  railway  staffs  and police officers  sticking  to  the first line of  railway’s  quake  rescue and relief.     While  leading  the  quake  relief campaign in Chongqing and delegated  by  General  Secretary Hu Jintao, Member of the Standing Committee of the CCCPC Political Bureau & Secretary of Central Discipline Inspection Commission He Guoqiang visited Chongqing North Station in the  afternoon  of  May 20th to convey  greetings to the  injured people transferred from Mianyang, Sichuan and the railway volunteers, car inspectors and the station staffs.     Member of  the  Standing  Committee of the CCCPC Political  Bureau & Secretary of Central Political and Legislative Commission Zhou  Yongkang  delivered   important  instructions on May 22nd, “Salute all the rescuers. I hope you could keep  up the  efforts and conduct adequate safety management so as to  resume  traffics by the  end of May.” In  another message on May 24th, Zhou noted, “BaoCheng Line has resumed  traffics earlier than schedule, thanks to the  12  days-and-nights  of  efforts  made by the PLA soldiers and railway staffs. All of  you  have  overcome a lot of trouble. Thank you all.”

    5月25日下午，中共中央政治局委员、国务院副总理、国务院抗震救灾总指挥部副总指挥回良玉，到成都站为转运伤员的“救”字头列车送行，检查指导铁路转运震区伤员工作，慰问铁路工作人员、医务人员和青年志愿者。
    Vice Premier Hui Liangyu, also Member  of the CCCPC Political Bureau & Deputy Director of the State Council’s Earthquake Rescue & Relief Headquarters, inspected railway’s transfer of injured  people, saw off the injured-dedicated train coded as “rescue” and conveyed greetings to railway staffs, medical personnel and volunteers at Chengdu Station on May 25th afternoon.

    Member of the CCCPC Political Bureau & Vice  Premier  Zhang  Dejiang  inspected  quake  relief operation at MOR Center for Traffic Command and Control on May 18th morning and conveyed greetings to the first line staffs on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council.

    Tunnel 109 of Baoji-Chengdu Line, severely damaged in the 5·12 Wenchuan Earthquake, was restored at 09:50 on  May 24th  and the traffics were resumed for the whole line. Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang delivered a message of greetings and gratitude to the first line rescuers.

    6月3日下午，中共中央政治局委员、国务院副总理张德江来到成都东站检查指导救灾物资转运工作，看望正在进行救灾物资装卸作业的干部职工和青年志愿者，代表党中央、国务院向他们表示亲切慰问，要求铁路系统广大干部职工再接再厉，克服困难，把救灾物资及时转运到灾区，为灾区人民恢复生产、重建家园再作贡献。
    Member of the CCCPC Political Bureau & Vice  Premier  Zhang  Dejiang  came over to  Chengdu East Station in the  afternoon of June 3rd to inspect disaster relief material transport and convey greetings to the railway staffs and volunteers on behalf of the central authority. Zhang requested the railway staffs to keep up the efforts and overcome all the difficulties to transport the relief materials to the disaster-hit areas in a timely manner and make further contribution to the  resumption of normal life and business  of the people as well as reconstruction of the quake areas.

    5月21日中午，中共中央政治局委员、北京市委书记刘淇，到大红门站检查指导救灾物资运输工作，亲自为北京市帮助灾区重建家园而组织的大型机械救灾专列发车，与铁路职工一起抢装救灾物资。
    Member of the CCCPC Political Bureau & Secretary CPC Beijing Committee Liu Qi inspected relief material transport at  Dahongmen Station at  May  21st  noon. Liu participated the loading operations with the  railway staffs and saw off a  machinery  train, which  was  organized by Beijing Municipality for the reconstruction in the quake-stricken region.
