3月29日9时，共青团全国铁路第八次代表大会在北京隆重召开。大会表彰了2008年铁路青年春运立功竞赛及抗击雨雪冰冻灾害先进青年（集体），并为铁路青年五四奖章获得者代表颁奖。大会审议通过了共青团全国铁道第七届委员会工作报告，选举产生共青团全国铁道第八届委员会及铁路系统出席共青团第十六次全国代表大会的代表。图为共青团全国铁路第八次代表大会会场。
    The 8th National Session of CCYL National Railway Committee was opened at 09:00 on March 29th in Beijing. The meeting  commended  the outstanding individuals and units out of the Spring Festival Transportation 2008 and the disaster-relief campaign of the recent freezing rain and snow catastrophes and  issued “May 4th Medal” to the award winners. The meeting reviewed and adopted the work report of the 7th CCYL National Railway Committee and elected the 8th CCYL National Railway  Committee  and railway representatives for the forthcoming 16th CCYL National Congress.     4月11日，国产时速350公里CRH3“和谐号”动车组在中国北车集团唐山轨道客车有限责任公司下线，这是铁路技术装备现代化取得的又一重大成果，标志着中国铁路技术装备水平已经跃上了一个新的平台。
    China’s first domestically made 350km/h EMU train “Harmony CRH3” rolled off the production line at CNR  Tangshan Railway Vehicle Co., Ltd. on April 11th, marking another major achievement in China’s railway  equipment modernization and a significant notch up the railway  technologic hierarchy.
   
    在国产时速350公里动车组下线之际，中共中央政治局常委、国务院总理温家宝，中共中央政治局委员、国务院副总理张德江，中共中央政治局委员、国务委员刘延东分别在铁道部呈报的《时速350公里动车组设计制造情况的报告》上作出重要批示。
    Upon the roll-out of the first China-made 350km/h EMU train, Member of the Standing Committee of the CCCPC Political Bureau & Premier Wen Jiabao, Member of Political Bureau of CCCPC & Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang and Member of Political Bureau of CCCPC & State Councilor Liu Yandong delivered important message and instructions on MOR’s Report of 350km/h EMU Design and Production.

    中共中央政治局常委、国务院总理温家宝指出，具有完全自主知识产权和世界先进技术国产350公里动车组下线，标志着我国铁路技术装备水平取得重大突破。
    The roll-out  of  the first China-made 350km/h EMU train, with full intellectual property rights and world-class technology, marks another significant breakthrough in China’s railway  technology  and equipment modernization, noted Member of the Standing Committee of the CCCPC Political Bureau & Premier Wen Jiabao.

    中共中央政治局委员、国务院副总理张德江指出，国产时速350公里“和谐号”动车组胜利下线是引进先进技术，联合设计生产，打造中国品牌，实现机车车辆装备现代化的重大成果。希认真总结经验，再接再厉，为中国铁路的大发展作出新的贡献。
    The successful roll-out of the first China-made 350km/h EMU train, Member  of Political Bureau of CCCPC & Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang noted, marks a major achievement in railway’s locomotive and rolling stock modernization as well as CR’s strategy of introducing advanced technology, cooperation in design and production, and forging China brand; and the railway sector shall earnestly round up experience and work harder  to  make new contribution to railway’s quantum development.

    Member of  Political  Bureau of CCCPC & State Councilor Liu Yandong cited the  successful roll-out of  the first China-made 350km/h EMU train as a significant achievement in technologic innovation. Liu hopes the railway departments shall keep striving for self-reliant innovation and  step up railway modernization so as to make new, greater contribution to the sound and rapid eco-social development.

    全国政协副主席、科学技术部部长万钢也发来贺信，对铁路科技创新工作提出要求。
    Vice Chairman of the 11th National Committee of CPPCC & Minister for Science and Technology Wan Gang  also  delivered  a  congratulatory letter to raise higher expectation for railway technologic innovation.

    3月20日，中共中央政治局委员、新疆维吾尔自治区党委书记王乐泉听取了乌鲁木齐铁路局党政主要领导的工作汇报。他要求铁路部门认真学习贯彻党的十七大和全国“两会”精神，全面落实科学发展观，加快新疆铁路建设步伐，搞好新疆铁路运输生产经营，确保运输安全稳定，充分发挥“火车头”作用，为新疆经济社会又好又快发展提供有力的运输保证。
    Wang Lequan, Member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee & Secretary  of CPC Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee, heard the  work report by  the principal  management of Urumqi Railway Administration on March 20th. Wang urged the railway department to learn  and implement in earnest the gist  of  the 17th CPC National Conference  and the recently concluded  annual sessions of  NPC  and  CPPCC, put  the scientific view of development into full practice, step  up  Xinjiang’s  railway  development, well manage Xinjiang’s railway operations, ensure sustained transportation safety and play a lead role in securing a sound and rapid eco-social development of Xinjiang.
   
    当北京奥运会的脚步越来越近之时，北京南站建设也进入了冲刺阶段。3月31日下午，铁道部党组书记、部长刘志军来到紧张建设中的北京南站现场办公，要求有关部门，坚持以人为本，一切从方便旅客、服务旅客出发，按照世界一流标准，搞好站内功能布局、服务导向揭示、装饰装修等工作，确保北京南站如期投入运营，为北京奥运会提供良好的运输服务。
    The construction of Beijing South Station enters into the final stage as the steps of Beijing Olympics Games are approaching. During his inspection tour to the Beijing South Station on March 31st afternoon, MOR Party Secretary & Minister Liu Zhijun urged relevant departments to keep adhering to the passenger-first principle, finalize the functional layout, service direction, furnishing  and  decoration of the station according to the world’s top-notch standard so  as  to put the station into operation on schedule and provide quality transport services for the Beijing Olympic Games.

    4月7日，铁道部党组书记、部长刘志军到青岛客站改造工程现场，了解施工进度，检查工程质量，慰问建设者。他要求参建单位，注重细节，精益求精，把青岛客站建成世界一流的现代化车站，展示中国铁路风采，为北京奥运增光。
    MOR Party Secretary & Minister Liu Zhijun  came  over  to the modification site of Qingdao Passenger Station on April 7th  to  inspect  the project schedule management, construction  quality and convey greetings to the station builders. Minister Liu requested the contractors to pay attention to the details, strive for perfection  and build Qingdao Station into a world-class modern station so as to well present CR’s image and add  splendor to the Beijing Olympic Games.

    4月8日，铁道部党组书记、部长刘志军添乘动车组试验列车，对合宁铁路动态检测试验和运营准备工作进行检查，并慰问了广大建设者。刘志军在检查小结会上充分肯定了铁路建设和运营准备工作取得的重要成果，要求各单位、各部门结合这次检查情况，认真总结经验，以确保运输安全为核心，进一步做好动态检测试验和运营准备工作，确保合肥至南京铁路4月18日安全顺利开通运营。
    On April 8th, MOR  Party  Secretary & Minister Liu Zhijun took a ride on  the EMU test  train to inspect  the dynamic  testing and operational preparations on Hefei-Nanjing Line and conveyed greetings to the railway builders. While speaking highly of the initial achievements in railway construction and operation preparations at the sum-up meeting, Minister Liu urged relevant departments to round up the experience and lessons drawn out of the tests and examination, better manage the dynamic tests and operational preparations with the focal point on safety so as to ensure a successful launch of the line by April 18th.
